Black car service

Black car service is pre-arranged, chauffeur-driven transportation in a late-model black sedan or SUV, booked in advance at a quoted rate rather than hailed on demand.

Black car service sits between a taxi and a stretch limousine. The vehicle is a professionally maintained black sedan or SUV, the driver is a licensed commercial chauffeur, and every ride is reserved ahead of time with a confirmed pickup time, vehicle class, and price. There is no metering, no surge, and no driver-acceptance lottery.

In California, black car operators are charter-party carriers licensed by the CPUC and must carry commercial liability insurance well above the private-auto minimum. That licensing is the practical difference between a black car company and a rideshare driver in a dark-colored car.

Typical use cases are airport transfers, executive point-to-point trips, client pickups, and evening events where arrival matters. Pricing is either a flat rate for a defined route or an hourly as-directed rate with a minimum.
